Welcome to the Elk in Wisconsin web site! This site has been created to provide you with information about Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation activities in the state, as well as educational information about Wisconsin's elk herd and RMEF conservation efforts.
Wisconsin is one of the most active states in the eastern United States in Elk conservation. With over 6,000 members and 24 active chapters, we have been able to accomplish some great things for wildlife conservation and conservation education of our children. We believe strongly in "Passing On" an elk country legacy to our children and grandchildren.
All About the Elk of Wisconsin
Elk were reintroduced to the wild in Wisconsin in 1995, through a partnership between the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Finding a Wisconsin Elk

Each year as the herd continues to grow, more and more people enjoy heading to the Clam Lake area in hopes of catching a glimpse of a Wisconsin elk. And just as good, even if you don't get to see one, is the incredible priviledge of hearing the majestic sound of a herd bull bugling in the fall. The sound, that to many, is the true symbol of the wilderness and is something you will never forget.
The best opportunity to view elk is during the rut in September and early October. A map of the Clam Lake elk range, highlighted with the best driving routes, can be found at http://www.dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/Elk/ElkinWIMap.pdf.
